In a month

July and August have been jam packed with excitement. Most of July was spent packing which paid off big time because we actually did make it out to the lake which I wasn't sure that was going to happen.

The hot days

Normally our summers are spent by the lake...
this year we have been
1) flooded out
2) packing
3) it's been super rainy
4) and really just enjoying time on our farm with our ponies...

So on the hot days at the farm the girls can be found....

Here at the pool....

Here on the slip and slide/ water slide....

And catchin a breeze on the swing set....
Who knew home could be so much fun.... and just as refreshing!

Fun in the sun

Summer finally decided to grace us with her presence! And honesty, it's about freaking time!! We have been soaking up the sun (mostly at home- which really has been a bit of a novelty since the last 5 years we have been at the lake). This morning I hooked up the waterslide and the squirt guns and I might actually get to read a book!

the girls would beg to go in it when it would start to snow.

The teenage eyeroll....

Okay. So let me start off by stating the mere fact that I have two younger sisters. I spent time (I would like to say much time but honestly that may be an exaggeration...) doing their hair and their friends hair befre school dances. For the past two night I have had the pleasure of watching Ellie dance in the high school production of "Grease". I helped most of the girls with their hair an make-up and I have NEVER felt so gushy and proud. I actually cried tonight watching her. She was amazing. The play was amazing! Lucy's eyes were as bug as saucers watching the big musical numbers. The look on her face was priceless! I know that in 10 to 12 short years I will be front and center watching her lead in a play. I am so so so so SO thankful to be able to send my children to a school that puts the time and effort not only in academic excellence but goes above and beyond in arts and drama! I know that this is the part that when my girls are teenagers they will roll their eyes at me but gosh I really don't care and I am just going to keep gushing!!!!

Korean BBQ Salad

Korean BBQ Salad
go to extra foods and buy some Korean BBQ sauce.
It comes in a jar.
It is labeled Korean BBQ sauce.
Get a roast from the freezer or the store or where ever one might find a roast.
Cook the roast.
Cut the roast.
Pour sauce over roast.
Place back in oven.
cut green onions and lettuce and put some carrot slaw mix in the pile.
Add nuts or seeds or any other things.
Put some of the BBQ in a small bowl with a splash of soya sauce and some oil.
mix and put over top of lettuce.
Take roast out and cut into bitty bits
and put on salad.
Eat.

A swimmingly lovely day.

I don't really have time for pictures today. Today is swimming. I know this because on days that it is swimming Lucy wakes up at the crack of dawn and about every minute until 4:00 PM she asks, "Is it time for swimming yet?". I feel like yelling "GET A WATCH" but that wouldn't help because she is 4 and doesn't tell time well enough and then I would spend my day explaining time and still telling her that it's not 4 o'clock yet.

One day UNDER the rainbow...

I decided to keep Ellie home from school today.
BUT
that's a story for another day.

So I woke up and got showered.
(because I really needed to)
and while in the shower my lovely children woke.

they began bugging me in the shower
so
I sent them down to do chores.
This can sometimes lead to a lot more mess.
So
when I eventually came down I didn't really know what to expect
BUT
they did a really good job.

We made breakfast and as I turned to get the milk, the horses caught my eye.

I threw on my dress shoes and flew out the door.
Biscuits was in the coop.

I ran to the barn.
Grabbed the whip
and went running
(but not gracefully because I was 1) mad and 2) I am not graceful).
I got there to find my goose coop flattened on one side and
a
big
fat
ugly
(well cute but ugly right then)
pony
eating all the gooses (jeff's) grain!!!!

of course
didn't think to grab a lead rope or halter.
and
she is a sassy little thing
so
there was no WAY a little tap on the behind would get her out.

I trudged out and found some twine.
I trudged back.
and hauled her out and away from the beloved oats!

Needless to say I spent the morning fixing Jeffrey's home.
It's a good thing dusty always has a million survey stakes kicking around here.
You should see it.
It is a thing of beauty.
Chicken wire, survey stakes, and zippy ties.

This of course had to all happen in the pouring rain and gusty winds.
This is why I don't do my hair.
Because
when I do
I have to go out in the windy rain.

And now
this afternoon it is sunny
and crisp
and
we are all happy under the rainbow.
