As the leaves have turned and my children have run off to school I find that I have a couple minutes during my day to do what I love...

This summer I bought a spinning wheel and so the bags and bags of rovings have found purpose. I spun three bobbins of yarn and needed a project. This is a delightfully sticky yarn and my friend at http://www.lmicheldesigns.com is AMAZING at designing some really awesome patterns. So these first bobbins are yarn are destined to be felted slippers. 

Andy's Sweater

Well I FINALLY got his sweater finished! Good thing in my "wisdom" I made it a size two! 

It is soft, cuddly, and going to be perfect for camping! 

Now I want one!

Snow Distracted

I have been knitting Andy a sweater.

(It's been a long while....)

I keep getting side tracked 

It gets put down

And I find other things to do.

So yesterday as the snow started to fall

I pulled it out.

I have three rows to go!

And then buttons.

But

I am SO close!!!

1 hour hat

This is my 1 hour hat.

I make it quite a bit

It's so cute.

The outside rolls back and makes a Nordic bonnet.

This is new baby size.

It's a rectangle with the three needle cast-off for the back.

I pick up a few stitches at the bottom for ear/chin warming and

Done.

Super easy.

Super warm.

This one is black and grey and lilac.

I probably should of skipped the lilac 

(just in case)

But whatever....

I might have time tonight to knit another!

1 more week- let the knitting commence

 I told my self now that Christmas was over and that knitting complete I would start on a few baby projects. I don't really do gender neutral... But IF this baby happens to be a boy then I know a few other people having babies this year. I knitted the baby sack and hat into a newborn size but I feel like perhaps this baby might have been more appropriately sized with a 3 month old.....

I have a whole bucket more yarn sitting and waiting for snugly baby things! And since I have now been officially banned from doing anything (seriously- everything) I think I might actually get most of it knitted :)

Monday

It's Monday night already.

I have been attempting to be a frequent blogger

not letting myself slip into the black abyss of 

internet space

getting lost in thinking I have nothing interesting to add

to this galaxy of nothingness.

Okay.

Phew

I think I must be reading 

too many of my friends nerd pins

on pinterest.

which is also the reason for the black abyss in blogging.

I will eventually end my rambling.

I got distracted by my stash.

I wish I had a stash of chocolate.

stupid diets.

but instead I found 

my stash of YARN.

I put it away through the craziness of moving

and just sorta forgot about it.

but as soon as I touched the soft squishy balls of loveliness 

(yarn people)

I thought of babies.

People all around me are knocked up.

So I knit a couple baby pods.

Penny thought she was getting a hat!

So instead of blogging 

I was knitting.

I am still knitting

but i thought i would be a multitasker on this fine Monday night

but now

I have done my part

and must go back to the gentle clacking of needles instead of keys.

We actually got a sheep shearer out.

Penny's Pod

I knitted this pod- cocoon thing before she came.

I didn't know if I'd like it but I LOVE it.

It's so warm and cozy and cuddly and soft.

It was so easy to knit.

I didn't follow a pattern but I'm sure you can find one out there in Internet-land.

I just used straight needles and stitched up the back side.

I started with 7 stitches and just used a basic increase every other knit row.

I increased almost every other stitch.

I stopped at 55 stitches and made it 24 inches long. 

Where My Wild thing is.

I threw together this crown. I used 4 pieces of worsted weight yarn and knitted it on 6mm needles. I didn't knit it in the round so it is stitched together in the back. I LOVE it. I wasn't sure if I was going to post it yet or not just because it's not quite done. I want to go get some jeweled buttons and stitch them in the band part just to make it a wee bit fancier.

It fits so well. It stretches and it can't get broken (yipee for not having to glue gun it back together!!!!!!!!!) I know that both of them will love it. and they will wear them everywhere. Inside. Outside. Church. Home. Playing. Not playing. Everywhere.

Kitty Tuque

I've been working on some Christmas presents the last little while. Most of them I can't post for obvious reasons BUT some of the girls stuff I am going to post. I found some yarn on sale and I have a soft spot for soft super chunky yarn. This pink matches Ellie's snowsuit this year so I whipped up a hat. I didn't use a pattern from anywhere BUT it is SO SO SO easy to do.

I didn't use a pattern. I just CO 16 inches worth of stitches and knit in the round for 12 inches then used a 3 needle bind off.

Knitted 80's Headband

Ellies 80's rocker headband.

I had some *BIG softie* yarn left over from a hat so I knitted a band and stitched it together and added a big pink flower to it. Ellie loves it for her dress-up box. It makes me smile every time I see her wear it.

Red hat

I was making this hat for some of the girls Christmas outfits. It was super easy to knit and didn't take me long at all (maybe an hour). It's a free pattern I found while browsing through sites.

The only thing I changed was that I cast on 6 stitches instead of 8 and it worked out perfectly for a 18month to a 4 year old head.

I didn't have any bulky yarn so I just put in 2 strands of black worsted and 1 strand of red worsted weighted yarn.

The girls do like this hat cause it's so easy to pull on (and off).

Hat's anyone?!?

Ah my HATS. I have never in my life found something that I love to do as much as I love to knit. I am a beginner knitter but I have aspirations to conquer the knitting world (not really) but I would love to be able to one day have enough experience and expertise to create something of my own design. But for now I use other people's genius and create cute and cozy creations. I have been knitting hats and specifically two needle hats because I am just starting out so I don't have double-pointed needles or circular needles. I also have two sizes of needles so everything has to be done on them. I have 6mm and 10mm. I have been fortunate enough to find some great free patterns online.


This is the first pattern I attempted and I am in LOVE with it. It was the easiest thing in the world to knit and so fast because of the super chunky yarn and the big needles. It is a hat pattern that was inspired from the movie, "the golden compass". Lyra wears this hat and I was drawn to it in the film and it looks absolutely adorable on my girls and it fits awesome!

It is the best hat pattern I found for kids, especially because neither of my children like hats, so I could tie it on them. The only thing I changed from her pattern was that I braided the ties because I'm not really a twister.
